July 24, 2010 - FAIRBANKS – Fire take game two 10-7 against the Miners to split the double-header. Two offensive explosions out of the Fire produced nine of the ten runs they would need to take the second game of the double-header. The win goes to Tyler Bersano, as he improves to 6-0 on the season, and the Fire up their record 11-26 in the ABL. The loss goes to Matt Applegate as the Miners drop to 24-12 on the ABL season.
The Miners went continued their scoring with two runs in the top of 2nd inning. The two runs started with a leadoff single by Wesley Thigpen, who later came around to score the first run of the game. Matt Ozanne was the second man to come around to score after he reached on a fielder’s choice.
The Fire bounced right back for five runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning. Things got started when Hank Price led off with a triple. Chuck DiBella then lined an RBI single into right field. Everett followed the single up with a single of his own to give the Fire runners on first and second. David Mitroff then walk to load the bases, as the Fire put the pressure on the starting pitcher Matt Applegate. Ty Windall then lined a two RBI single to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error by the right fielder Andy Mee. Will Watson then capped off the scoring with an RBI single into center field to give the Fire the 5-2 advantage.
The Miners struck right back in the top of the 3rd inning to tie the game with three runs of their own. Two doubles and a hit-by-pitch helped propel the Miners to their three run outbreak and tie the game 5-5.
The score would remain tied until the bottom of the 5th inning when the Fire struck for four big runs. Kellen Bozeman led things off with a hit, which started a hitting barrage. The hits came from Price, DiBella, Everett and Windall to produce four of the five hits in the inning. All but Windall came around to score to give the Fire the 9-5 lead.
The Fire proved once again that they could play with and beat the best the ABL has to bring to the field. The Fire look to make another dent in the standings as the will play the suspended game at 12 PM local time, which will start off in the top of the 10th inning. The regularly scheduled game at 2 PM will follow the continuation as anticipated.
